Nigeria’s Super Eagles qualified for the 2023 Afcon finals with a 3-2 win over Sierra Leone, with Kelechi Iheanacho scoring the game-winning goal.
Victor Osimhen scored for the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the 19th minute. About 13 minutes later, the in-form Napoli attacker increased the visitors’ lead.
But the hosts equalized just before halftime, with Mustapha Bundu, 26, scoring Sierra Leone’s first goal.
It took the Leone Stars some time to battle back, but Augustus Kargbo scored in the 84th minute, and the match looked destined to end in a two-all draw. Kelechi Iheanacho of Leicester City, on the other hand, had other ideas, scoring in the final seconds of the referee’s optional time.
The Super Eagles qualified for the 2023 Afcon finals after finishing first in Group C with nine points from five games.
The Nigerians have won four of their five games, becoming one of just two teams to have already secured a place in next year’s championships, which will be held in Ivory Coast. They defeated Sierra Leone 2-1 in their first game before destroying Sao Tome and Principe 10-0.
Nigeria, along with Guinea Bissau, will complete their qualification in September when they host Sao Tome in their own territory.
