The Nigerian Army announced that the soldiers who were killed in the Okuama community in Delta State will be buried today at the National Cemetery in Abuja.
The burial is scheduled for 3 p.m., as stated in a post on the Nigerian Army’s official social media account. President Bola Tinubu is expected to be the Special Guest of Honour at the ceremony.
Allub Times recalls that 17 military personnel were killed by angry youths during a clash over a land dispute in Bomadi and Okuoma communities.
The soldiers, who were from the 181st Amphibious Battalion, were attacked while responding to a distress call.
Despite rumors of military retaliation, the Defence headquarters denied any such plans and emphasized that those responsible for the attack will be apprehended regardless of any attempts to spread misinformation.
The Defence Headquarters promised severe consequences and then revealed the names of the Army personnel who died during a peace mission in Okuama.
At the same time, Tinubu and the Senate instructed the military to capture the individuals responsible for the soldiers’ deaths.
