Former Vice President of the Caf Appeal Committee, Mazi Amanze Uchegbulam, has issued a warning to goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, advising him against returning to Chippa United.
In the Africa Cup of Nations semi-final, South Africa and Nigeria faced off, resulting in a 1-1 draw in both regular and extra time. The Super Eagles emerged victorious in the penalty shootout, winning 4-2 and securing their spot in the next round.
Nwabali played a crucial role in his team’s success by saving penalties from Teboho Mokoena and Evidence Makgopa, ultimately eliminating Bafana Bafana from the tournament.
Uchegbulam said: “The feelers I’m getting from South Africa regarding Nwabali are not encouraging, and I want to advise that he should not go back to Chippa United after the Afcon,” the Nigerian football administrator told Nation Sports.
“Some would say it was just football, but the signals I’m getting from South Africa about Nwabali are not so positive.
“If possible, he can forget going back to Chippa United and train with any of our top clubs, either Enyimba United or Rivers United, before he can find a new club.
“That is my honest advice, and I hope he takes it.”
Nwabali, who has been performing exceptionally well in Ivory Coast with four clean sheets, is now being associated with a potential departure from the Chilli Boys.
The 27-year-old player is likely considering his options for the upcoming transfer window, with the Kaizer Chiefs being one of the teams rumored to be interested in signing him.
