All African Games: Nigeria Battles Egypt For First Spot On Medal Table

Nigerian athletes have secured the second-highest number of medals behind Egypt in the ongoing 2024 All African Games in Ghana.

Egypt appears to be on track to be the overall winner of the sports festival, which began in Accra, Ghana, in early March 2024.

At the time of this report, athletes from Egypt have won an impressive 53 gold medals, along with 21 silver and 20 bronze medals. These numbers are likely to increase as the Egyptian athletes are still competing in various events at the African Games, which will conclude on March 23, 2024.

Meanwhile, Team Nigeria, who finished second overall in the previous edition of the games in Morocco, is currently holding onto second place in the ongoing African Games.

So far, Nigerian athletes have earned 22 gold medals, 10 silver medals, and 16 bronze medals at the sports festival. To catch up to Egypt in terms of total gold medals won, Team Nigeria would need to secure at least 32 more gold medals.

Other countries in the top five of the medal table at the African Games include Algeria, South Africa, and Tunisia.
