The Edo State House Assembly has ordered that the impeachment notice for the state Deputy Governor, Phillip Shaibu, be published in national newspapers.
This decision, according to reports, was made because the deputy governor reportedly did not acknowledge the notice given to him by the House last week.
On Wednesday, the lawmakers started the process of impeaching Shaibu, claiming he lied under oath and disclosed confidential government information.
This impeachment notice is seen as the most recent event in the ongoing conflict between Shaibu and Governor Godwin Obaseki.
There has been tension between the deputy governor and his boss since last year, when Shaibu announced his intention to run for governor this year. The House decided to officially notify Shaibu by substitution during the plenary session on Monday.
The Speaker of the Edo State House Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, claimed that Shaibu had refused to accept the impeachment notice given to him by the House.
As a result, the Speaker instructed the House Clerk, Yahaya Omogbai, to publish the notice in the Nigerian Observer newspaper and other national newspapers.
The Speaker said, “It is clear that the deputy governor has rejected the impeachment notice served on him by the House.
“The House will serve him by substitution by publishing the letter in three national dailies, The Observer, inclusive.”
