Kola Oyewo, a veteran actor and educator, recently shared the deeply personal and challenging journey he has faced while battling prostate cancer.
Speaking during a visit from fellow actor Kunle Afod to his home in Osun State, Oyewo revealed the origins of his health struggles in 2019, stating that it began with difficulty passing urine, prompting him to seek medical attention.
Following a series of thorough tests, Oyewo received the devastating diagnosis of an enlarged prostate, marking the commencement of his prolonged fight against the illness. Over the course of more than two years, he endured numerous surgeries and medical interventions as doctors fought to save his life. Oyewo recounted the heartache of losing six friends to similar ailments, further emphasizing the severity of his own health battle.
His journey was made even more challenging by his wife’s ongoing battle with a stroke since 2017. Despite the emotional strain of their simultaneous health crises, Oyewo and his wife faced their challenges together, finding strength in each other during the darkest of times.
Undeterred by the obstacles ahead, Oyewo approached his treatment with determination and resilience. Despite knowing that certain procedures would impact his sexual function, he prioritized his health above all else, demonstrating remarkable courage in the face of adversity.
Reflecting on his experience, Oyewo expressed a profound sense of gratitude for the gift of life, choosing to handle his medical expenses independently without seeking public assistance. As he continues his journey towards recovery, Oyewo remains committed to his craft, resuming work on film sets until “God’s time comes calling.”
