President Bola Tinubu has appointed Olayinka Oladunjoye as a federal commissioner in the National Population Commission (NPC).
President Tinubu conducted the swearing-in ceremony for Oladunjoye before the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja.
Oladunjoye, who previously held positions in Lagos State as Commissioner of Education and Commissioner of Commerce and Cooperatives, has taken over the role from Mrs. Bimbo Salu-Hudeyin, who was appointed to a new position by the Lagos State government.
The oath-taking ceremony marked the official start of Oladunjoye’s term in the NPC, coinciding with this week’s FEC meeting chaired by President Tinubu.
The meeting saw the attendance of high-ranking officials, including the Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila; the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume; and the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan.
However, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, was noticeably absent because of a recent fire at her residence.
Furthermore, the seats for the Minister of Labour, Simon Lalong, and the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, were empty.
In her new role, Commissioner Oladunjoye has promised to work closely with all stakeholders, highlighting the importance of using technology for a more precise and inclusive data-driven census.
After being sworn in, Oladunjoye spoke to the press and promised to make sure that the upcoming census is inclusive and accepting. She plans to use her experience and the latest technology to improve the operations of the NPC.
The appointment shows that the administration is dedicated to improving national planning and development by using accurate population data. Oladunjoye’s background in public service will bring valuable insights and improvements to the commission’s important work.
