Popular Nigerian pastor and actor, Jimmy Odukoya, has shed light on a troubling societal phenomenon where men are groomed with a sense of entitlement rather than being educated on responsibility and accountability.

In a recent sermon delivered at The Fountain of Life Church, Odukoya voiced his concern that society has missed the mark by fostering an entitlement mindset in men while neglecting to instill essential values.

Odukoya commenced the discourse by addressing the issue head-on, stating, “There is a prevailing mentality among men that women must submit simply because of their gender. But what vision are these men expecting women to submit to? It’s a testament to the failure of society; we’ve raised countless boys who are essentially immature beings trapped in adult bodies. They may have aged physically, but their mentality remains underdeveloped.”

He further elucidated on the flawed upbringing of boys, observing, “Society has erred by instructing boys to sit back and let things be while assigning domestic responsibilities exclusively to girls. This ingrains a sense of entitlement in boys from an early age, devoid of any real-life skills or sense of accountability.”

Stressing the critical importance of imparting vital life skills, responsibility, and accountability to boys, Odukoya challenged the prevailing entitlement mindset.

“Girls are taught responsibility, accountability, and practical life skills from an early age. However, boys are often told to simply relax and let others take care of things because they are male. Consequently, they grow up with an entitlement mindset, lacking the skills and accountability required for genuine leadership. Demanding submission without a clear vision is simply unjustifiable. Respect must be earned through actions, not assumed based on gender roles,” he emphasized.
