There has been another national grid collapse in Nigeria, leading to a nationwide blackout.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has released a statement on its official account, explaining that the power outage in its franchise areas is due to a system failure from the national grid at 11:21 AM on Sunday.
“The Management of Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC) wishes to inform its valued customers that the power outage being experienced is as a result of a system failure from the national grid at 11:21 hours today, February 4, 2024, which has led to a nationwide power outage.
“Be rest assured that we are working with the relevant stakeholders to restore power as soon as the grid is stabilized,” the statement said.
The reason for this update is that there was a decrease in electricity supply in certain areas of the country due to limitations in the supply of gas to electricity generation companies.
In 2023, Nigerians encountered three instances of nationwide blackouts on September 14, 19, and December 11.
It is worth mentioning that just recently, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, requested the patience of Nigerians as the government works to address the issues in the power sector.
