Chelsea legend Didier Drogba joined Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen in celebration after Nigeria’s 2-0 victory over Cameroon in the last-16 of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Saturday night.
Osimhen showcased an impressive performance in Nigeria’s attack, while two goals from Ademola Lookman secured the win for Jose Peseiro‘s team against Cameroon.
The 25-year-old Osimhen has been the center of speculation regarding his future at his current club, Napoli, following an announcement by owner Aurelio de Laurentiis that he will depart the Serie A champions at the end of the season.
Reports on Saturday suggested that Osimhen had already made the decision to join Chelsea at the end of the season. Later that night, Osimhen met with Drogba, one of Chelsea’s legendary strikers, at AFCON.
Drogba congratulated Osimhen after Nigeria’s victory over Cameroon. The two also had a conversation on the Ivorian network NCI, where Osimhen expressed his admiration for Drogba, calling him his idol.
Osimhen’s next goal is to lead Nigeria to victory in the AFCON quarterfinal against Angola on February 2.
