President Bola Tinubu met with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday.

Fubara arrived at the Presidential Villa at around 5:40 p.m. and went straight to the President’s office for a closed-door meeting.

The purpose of the visit is unknown at this time, and Fubara did not speak to the press after the meeting.

This is Fubara’s first visit to the Presidential Villa since the signing of the 8-point agreement, which resolved the dispute between him and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is also the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

There has been a crisis in Rivers State due to a disagreement between Fubara and Wike. The disagreement has caused a division among lawmakers in the House, with 27 of them leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which Wike is currently a part of.

The feud has also led to separate meetings, an attempt to impeach the governor, the destruction of the Assembly building, and the resignation of pro-Wike commissioners in Fubara’s cabinet.

In October, the President and some respected politicians tried to resolve the crisis, but it escalated into a full-blown conflict.

Concerned about the situation, Tinubu met with political leaders in the oil-rich South-South state on December 18, 2023, and a truce was finally reached.

During the meeting, Fubara, Wike, the former governor of Rivers State, Peter Odili, some traditional rulers from the state, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, were present.

Several resolutions were made, including an agreement by the conflicting parties to immediately withdraw all legal cases initiated by Fubara and his team.
