The National Hospital Abuja (NHA) has refuted claims that veteran Nollywood actor Zack Orji was referred to a private hospital.

In an official statement signed by Tayo Haastrup, the NHA spokesman acting on behalf of the Chief Medical Director, the hospital sought to clarify the situation.

Zack Orji had fallen ill and was subsequently admitted to the hospital.

Tayo Haastrup, however, noted the actor’s medical journey, indicating that he was brought in on New Year’s Eve and initially received care in the intensive care unit. Following stabilisation, Orji was moved to the Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) ward and later to the orthopaedic ward, where preparations for surgery commenced.

Haastrup addressed the misconception, stating unequivocally, “To set the record straight, the actor, who was brought in on New Year’s Eve and admitted to the intensive care unit, was stabilised by National Hospital Abuja and moved to the ENT ward. Later in the day, he was transferred to the orthopaedic ward, where our surgeons began preparing him for surgery.”

The statement also clarified that preparations for surgery were disrupted by the signing of a “Leaving Against Medical Advice” form by Orji’s relatives on January 1, 2024. Despite this unforeseen setback, the management of the hospital extended sincere wishes for the veteran actor’s prompt recovery.
