Chelsea has joined the other teams in expressing interest in defender Jean-Clair Todibo, despite Nice’s reluctance to trade in January.
In December of last year, Mail Sport revealed that Tottenham negotiated with the Ligue 1 team for the signing of the highly-rated young defender.
Newcastle and Manchester United have also put him on their short lists.
The 23-year-old, who joined Nice from Barcelona in 2021, is estimated to be worth £35 million. His contract is slated to expire in 2027.
The France international, a product of the Toulouse youth system, had stints with both Shalke and Benfica, two of the biggest teams in Catalonia, before relocating to the south of the country.
Todibo, who has also earned two caps for the French national team, has recently drawn a lot of interest from European teams due to his strong play in the Ligue 1 backline.
Having made 46 appearances for Nice in all competitions the previous season, he has started fourteen of the games in the French top division for which he has been eligible.
In the meantime, Chelsea is considering a bid for the centre back as Mauricio Pochettino looks to strengthen his defensive options in light of the Blues’ recent injury woes.
The full-backs Marc Cucurella, Ben Chilwell, and Reece James are all out due to injuries, as are Wesley Fofana and Trevoh Chalobah.
In the past, Pochettino has expressed his expectation that Chelsea will be active during the January transfer window.
When questioned about what supporters may anticipate in January, he replied, “Some movement.” “We’ll examine that with the owner and the sporting director to see what we can do to improve the second half of the season and alter the dynamic.”
