The chairmen of all 44 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Kano State have taken the state government to court over plans to build two flyovers in the city.

The state government, led by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, is drawing 70% of the funding for the projects from the LGAs’ joint account.

The chairmen, supported by the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Kano State chapter, have filed a lawsuit (FHC/ABJ/CS/1733/2023) on December 29, 2023, at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

They are requesting an order to prevent the state government from using their funds in the joint account.

The lawsuit names the Kano State Government, the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, and the Accountant General of the state as defendants.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf defended the funding arrangement during the ceremony to start building the flyovers on Friday evening,, stating that it is a long-standing practice passed down from previous governors. He also assured that all local government areas would reap the benefits of the finished flyovers.
