Super Eagles and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has won the CAF Player of the Year Award at the 2023 CAF Awards ceremony in Marrakech, Morocco.

He beat his competitors, including Mohamed Salah of Egypt, Senegal’s Sadio Mane, and Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi.

Standing at 1.85 metres, the 24-year-old has undoubtedly distinguished himself among his contemporaries. The Super Eagles legend Kanu Nwankwo last won the award in 1999, so it has been a long 24 years since then.

Osimhen became the first African to win the top scorer title in the domestic Serie A league with 26 goals scored during the season and led Napoli to the title win after 33 years.

On the other hand, the women’s category boasts of Nigeria’s supremacy as Asisat Oshoala won the Women’s CAF Player of the Year.

Oshoala prevailed over Barbara Banda of Zambia and Thembi Klagtlana of South Africa.

Chiamaka Nnadozie, Oshoala’s Super Falcons teammate, took home the Women’s Keeper of the Year trophy.

Also, the National Team of the Year award went to the Super Falcons.
