Otti Swears In Mayors For Abia Local Government Areas

Published:

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has swore in mayors and deputies for the state’s 27 Local Government Areas (LGAs).

The governor tasked the authorities with serving and protecting their areas.

Otti, who delivered the charge at the Michael Okpara auditorium in Umuahia during the 34 appointees’ swearing-in ceremony, stated that one of the first responsibilities that awaits them is to reinforce security architecture in their respective local government areas.

He reaffirmed that no part of Abia State would be handed over to criminals, promising that infrastructure development would reach all parts of the state.

Otti stated that the new LGA chairman, known as Mayors in Abia, will be granted full authority over the administration of their local governments and urged them to operate as servant leaders.

He reminded them of the need of aligning their projects with the mindset of the Labour Party (LP)-led administration in Abia.

In response to criticism leveled at some of the LGA CEOs, Otti stated that his administration has taken note, while also stating that the proper decision was made in appointing people to lead the councils.

He also praised the House of Assembly for not delaying the vetting of LGA chairs.
