Ukraine’s capital city, Kyiv, experienced a significant drone attack on Saturday, which the country’s air force described as the largest one from Russia during the war.
This attack resulted in five people getting injured and caused disturbances for the residents due to the continuous sound of air defenses and explosions.
The assault, carried out using Shahed kamikaze drones of Iranian design, began in the early hours of Saturday and continued with additional waves as the sun rose. According to a spokesperson from Kyiv’s city administration, at least 40 drones were successfully taken down.
Mayor Vitali Klitschko, communicating through the Telegram app, confirmed that the attack had caused injuries to five individuals, including an 11-year-old girl. Additionally, buildings in various districts across the city were damaged as a result of the attack.
Fragments from a drone that crashed caused a fire in a children’s nursery, according to reports.
The exact target of the attack is not known yet, but Ukraine has been cautioning about Russia’s intention to launch an aerial campaign to destroy Ukraine’s energy system, similar to what happened last winter.
As a consequence of this attack, almost 200 buildings in the capital, including 77 residential ones, are now without power, as stated by Ukraine’s energy ministry.
