Ex-CBN Gov. Emefiele’s Trial Stall As EFCC Fails To Produce Him In Court

Published:

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) failed to bring Godwin Emefiele, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), to the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory on Monday.

Despite an order from Justice Olukayode Adeniyi for the EFCC to produce Emefiele in court for a hearing on his motion regarding fundamental rights enforcement, he was not present

Last week, Justice Adeniyi had ordered the anti-graft agency to unconditionally release the former CBN governor or bring him to court for a bail hearing.

This comes after Emefiele’s arrest by the EFCC shortly after being released from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) in late October.

The court has adjourned until Wednesday, November 8 for a hearing regarding Emefiele’s motion on notice and for his counsel to submit more documents.

The court also reiterated its previous order from November 2, which stated that Emefiele should be unconditionally released or brought to court on Wednesday.
