Former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike paid a celebratory visit to ex-Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, at his Abuja house on Tuesday.
Wike, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) powerbroker and now a minister-designate, congratulated Ganduje on his election as national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The APC announced this via a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Ganduje was elected APC chairman on August 3, 2023, during the party’s 12th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, following the contentious resignation of the party’s prior chair, Abdullahi Adamu, as well as certain NEC members.
Ganduje, who served as Kano governor for two terms from May 2015 to May 2023, is a close ally of President Bola Tinubu.
Furthermore, despite not belonging to the same political party, Wike is thought to be loyal to Tinubu. The former governor has officially admitted to working against the PDP’s flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar, in the February 25, 2023 election. The PDP chieftain also stated that he worked for Tinubu, the then-APC presidential candidate, in Rivers.
As of the time of posting this report, Wike was the only member of the opposition who had Tinubu’s 45 ministry nominees confirmed by the Senate.
The former Rivers governor and key G5 member has been observed socializing with members of the ruling parties, including incumbent and former governors. Before the 2023 election, the G5 was a group of five PDP governors who supported the return of power to Southern Nigeria at the expense of Atiku.
