Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the member representing Ondo’s Akoko Northeast and Northwest federal constituencies, has resigned from the 10th National Assembly.

Visitodell reports that his resignation comes just hours before his inauguration as minister-designate.

Recall that Hon. Tunji-Ojo was nominated and appointed as a minister by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Tunji-Ojo resigned from his current job in a letter to House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas late Sunday night.

Tunji-Ojo confirmed in the letter that his ministerial post required his resignation.

He wrote: “Our dear country is in dire need of collaborative and concerted efforts that would engender the much-needed advancement to greater heights, and I have been appointed to contribute my quota to achieve that enviable objective as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Tunji-Ojo was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2019, when he chaired the Ninth National Assembly’s Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

He was reelected in 2023.

In a slight cabinet reshuffle by President Bola Tinubu on Sunday night, the former lawmaker, named as minister of the newly created Marine and Blue Economy, was redeployed as the interior minister and replaced by former Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola.
