Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff, inaugurated Operation Hakorin Damisa on Saturday to address the killings and security difficulties in Plateau State.
The Army Chief also reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to battling criminals who have terrorized some communities in the Mangu Local Government Area and other regions of the state.
Major General Lagbaja was in Mangu to launch troops under Operation Hakorin Damisa IV as part of the Joint Security Task Force’s emergency response, Operation Safe Haven, to address security challenges in the affected areas of Mangu, Riyom, and Barkin-Ladi local government areas.
The Army chief reminded troops to follow the rules of engagement while performing their jobs.
He also urged residents in the impacted areas to help the military by providing crucial information.
The special operations unit consists of 300 troops and is equipped with seven Mine Resistant Armoured Personnel Vehicles, Motorcycles, Buffalo Patrol Vehicles, and Armoured Personnel Vehicles.
Hundreds of people have been killed in Plateau recently, with gunmen carrying out the majority of the attacks in the state’s Mangu region.
