The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, expressed that his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is still his superior.
Governor Fubara made this statement during the rededication service of the 2023/2024 Legal Year of the Rivers State Judiciary, which was attended by Wike. The event took place at the Saint Cyprian’s Anglican Church on Hospital Road in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
He referred to the recent political crisis in the state as something that has already happened and emphasized the need for peace in the oil-rich state. Fubara mentioned that if the actors and their supporters remain peaceful, Rivers State can move forward.
“My oga remains my oga. Whatever has happened is in the past. I have not sent anybody to malign anybody,” the governor said.
He acknowledged that it has been a challenging period for the state, but he believes that the current phase of political disagreement will eventually end, and his administration will fulfill the promises made to the people.
The governor also cautioned individuals who express their support for him to refrain from using offensive language against perceived opponents. He clarified that he did not give them permission to defame anyone.
According to him, when striving for progress, obstacles will always arise, but it is crucial to recognize these obstacles and overcome them.
This was the first time the two politicians, who were the main figures in the recent political conflict, would be publicly meeting in the state
Wike, who is the FCT Minister, arrived at the church service towards the end and exchanged a handshake with his successor before sitting together in the same row throughout the service.
Governor Fubara began his speech by humorously asking the audience to refrain from acknowledging the presence of any guests, so as to avoid any potential wrongdoing that could lead to his impeachment.
