The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has recently addressed the political tension in the state.
In a video shared on his official X handle on Friday, Fubara assured the public that he would continue to safeguard the interests of the people of Rivers State.
He also expressed his appreciation to the citizens and pledged to lead an inclusive government that prioritises justice and fairness for all.
The video message is being released during a time of increasing political tension in Rivers State.
In the past two days, a number of members of Fubara’s cabinet have resigned, which is believed to be connected to the governor’s conflict with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is now the Federal Capital Territory minister.
Additionally, 27 members of the state assembly have switched from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.
After the lawmakers defected, the Rivers State Government decided to demolish the Assembly Complex.
The government stated that this was necessary due to an “arson attack” that took place on October 29, and they plan to construct a more suitable building.
