Despite reports by some news outlets that have suggested that Super Eagles star Bright Osayi-Samuel, may face a suspension of five to 10 games after an incident with a pitch invader during Fenerbahce’s game against Trabzonspor, it has emerged that the Turkish FA might not ban him.
Allub Times reports that the fracas happened after the game ended with Fenerbahçe winning 3-2, with stadium security trying to protect Fenerbahçe players from fans who ran onto the field.
Turkey’s interior minister, Ali Yerlikaya, announced that an investigation is underway to identify the fans involved in the brawl.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Turkey Football Federation said, “We are in communication with our representatives and state officials regarding the events that occurred during and after the match played between Trabzonspor A.Ş. and Fenerbahçe A.Ş. in the Trendyol Super League.
“What happened in football, which is a game of friendship, peace, and brotherhood, is never acceptable.
“No one should have any doubt that once the investigations are completed, necessary criminal sanctions will be imposed on those responsible for these incidents to prevent them from recurring,” the federation added.
Osayi-Samuel defended a female police officer and his Belgian teammate Michi Batshuayi by fighting off an invading supporter, throwing punches, and knocking them to the ground.
Twelve people were detained after the incident, sparking debate over whether the Fenerbahçe players who fought back against the fans would face consequences.
