Port Harcourt – Damian Okoligwe, a 400L Petrochemical Engineering student at the University of Port Harcourt in Rivers State, has been sent to prison for the alleged murder of his girlfriend.

The incident occurred a few weeks ago, and Damian was brought before the Magistrate court in Port Harcourt on Monday to face trial for the crime.

During the court session, the prosecution requested that Damian be remanded in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).

The defendant requested that the court send the case file to the Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for future advice. The defense counsel did not oppose this application.

In her ruling, Magistrate Obiageri Anugbum stated that the accusations were serious and therefore ordered that Damian be held in prison custody. She also directed that the case file be transferred to the DPP’s office. The case was adjourned until December 15, 2023, for legal advice.

Damian is being accused of murdering and dismembering Justina Otuene, a second-year student studying Biochemistry, who was believed to be his romantic partner.
