A Tunisian court has freed two students who had been imprisoned in connection with a satirical song criticizing the police.
It happened after President Kais Saied called for their release, calling their arrest “unacceptable” in the face of widespread public outrage.
Youssef Chelbi, 27, and Dhia Nsir, 26, had posted a video on TikTok and Facebook criticizing police treatment of detainees and anti-drug laws.
Their detention generated outrage on social media, with many Tunisians sharing the song.
This year has seen a wave of arrests of prominent opponents of Mr Saied, who has ruled by decree since assuming office in 2021.

Hundreds of journalists demonstrated on Thursday against what they call oppressive anti-terror measures aimed to frighten the media.
They held posters outside the headquarters of the National Journalists Union, claiming that liberty is dependent on press freedom.
