According to sources, a number of former Nigerian state governors are on President Bola Tinubu’s yet-to-be-released cabinet list.

Tinubu is on the verge of exceeding the 60-day deadline for announcing his cabinet members while there are indications that the ministerial list has been forwarded to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Section 42(a) of the constitution states that “the nomination of any person to the office of a Minister for confirmation by the Senate shall be done within sixty days after the date the President has taken the oath of office”.

Below are some of the former governors said to have been added to the list:

  • Nyesom Wike (Rivers former governor)
  • Gboyega Oyetola (Osun former governor)
  • Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna former governor)
  • David Umahi (Ebonyi former governor)
  • Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi former governor)
  • Mohammed Badaru (Jigawa former governor)
  • Ben Ayade (Cross River former governor)

Lateef Fagbemi, the All-Progressive Congresses (APC) team lead attorney to defend the 2023 presidential election result in court, and David Edevbie, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the last general elections, are also said to be on the same list.
