Tinubu Establishes Special Panel On Social Investment Programs

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the formation of a special Presidential Panel on Social Investment Programmes.

The announcement was made by presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale in a statement on Saturday. The President has appointed Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance, to lead the Special Panel.

The Panel’s main responsibility is to conduct a thorough review and audit of the current financial frameworks and policy guidelines of the Social Investment Programs.

Additionally, it will work on completely restructuring the financial architecture of the programmes, making detailed modifications to the procedures for their implementation in the future.

Ajuri Ngelale, presidential spokesperson, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.

The President gave the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, the nod to head the Special Panel.

The Panel is tasked with immediately undertaking a comprehensive review and audit of existing financial frameworks and policy guidelines of the Social Investment Programmes.

It will also implement a total re-engineering of the financial architecture of the programmes with detailed modification to procedures guiding the programmes’ implementation moving forward.

The Panel consists of the following members:

Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance – Chairman;

Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare – Member

Honourable Minister of Budget and Economic Planning – Member

Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation – Member

Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy – Member

Honourable Minister of State for Youth – Member

The N-Power Programme, the Conditional Cash Transfer Programme, and two other programs administered by the National Social Investment Programme, NSIPA, have been suspended.

This suspension is to allow for a thorough investigation of the agency and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

It is important to note that on January 2nd, 2024, Halima Shehu, the national Coordinator of the National Social Investment Programme Agency, was suspended by Tinubu due to financial misappropriation.

Additionally, the President suspended Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, following corruption allegations involving N585 million.
