President Bola Tinubu has given his approval for DIG Johnson Babatunde Kokumo (rtd) to be the new Coordinator of the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons.
The appointment is part of the Office of the National Security Adviser.
The announcement was made by Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity), through a press release.
DIG Kokumo (rtd) is a highly respected law enforcement professional with more than 30 years of experience in crime prevention, management, analysis, and control.
He previously served as the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department, Force Headquarters, Abuja, from 2022 to 2023.
President Tinubu is confident that DIG Kokumo (rtd) will use his vast experience and expertise to strengthen the Centre and develop new strategies to effectively tackle the spread of small arms and light weapons.
Ngelale mentioned that the President expects the new Coordinator to apply his extensive knowledge and skills to improve the Centre and create fresh approaches to combat the issue of arms proliferation, which significantly contributes to insecurity in the country.
