IBADAN — The family of Taiwo Akinkunmi, the late designer of Nigeria’s national flag, has accused the Oyo State Government of causing delays in the burial arrangements for the respected elder.

According to Politics Nigeria, Pa Akinkunmi passed away on August 26, 2023, at the age of 84. The Oyo Government had promised to give him a state burial, but this promise has not been fulfilled yet.

The family had initially scheduled the burial for December 7 and 8, 2023, but there were disagreements regarding the proposed date.

A source attributed this disagreement to a lack of proper consultation between the family and the government.

The Oyo State House of Assembly later met with the family and assured them that they would communicate a new agreement on the burial date.

Akinwunmi Akinkunmi, the spokesperson for the bereaved family, expressed their impatience due to the lack of communication and uncertainty surrounding the burial arrangements.

A family member requested clarification on the commitments made by the government to determine whether they should proceed with their own burial plans for the late Pa Akinkunmi.
