Andre Onana will join the Cameroon squad for the Africa Cup of Nations after Manchester United play Tottenham on January 14.
It was previously reported that United was in negotiations with Onana’s national team regarding the goalkeeper’s availability for the Ivory Coast tournament, which begins next Saturday.
The 27-year-old is reportedly planning to remain with the team through their Premier League encounter at Old Trafford against Spurs before joining Cameroon, whose season kicks off against Guinea on January 15.
Prior to the United match against Tottenham, United will play a third-round FA Cup match the following Monday against Wigan.
It is believed that the Cameroonian football association decided to be accommodating when it came to the release date of a player who was convinced to return from international retirement earlier this season.
Before joining United from Inter Milan in the summer of 2022, Onana had withdrawn from the national team due to a disagreement with head coach Rigobert Song at the 2022 World Cup.
After learning that Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez have both resumed training after lengthy injuries, Erik ten Hag’s team may receive an additional boost ahead of their matchup with Tottenham.
Key defender Martinez has been out since September, and Brazil’s midfielder Casemiro hasn’t featured since the Carabao Cup loss to Newcastle on November 1.
After practicing individually for the previous few weeks, United announced on Wednesday that the two had begun full training with the squad.
