Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 general election, has claimed that the late Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, played a role in his death. Sowore made these allegations during an interview on News Central TV.
He specifically accused Akeredolu’s wife and family members of being responsible for the governor’s demise.
According to Sowore, they were attempting to exploit him for personal gain, even when Akeredolu had requested to be taken to his hometown to rest due to his declining health.
Sowore also mentioned an incident where Akeredolu’s wife, brothers, and other family members brought the governor back to Nigeria from Germany against his wishes in order to use his presence to remove Lucky Aiyedatiwa from office.
He said, “In saner climes, those behind Akeredolu’s death will be prosecuted. You can’t hasten the death of somebody and get away with it.”
Akeredolu passed away on Wednesday due to prostate cancer. The Ondo State Government, through the state Information and Orientation commissioner, Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, released a statement confirming Akeredolu’s death.
Ademola-Olateju stated that Governor Akeredolu was receiving medical treatment in Germany for complications related to his long-standing battle with prostate cancer when he passed away.
