The Senate on Wednesday asked the Federal Government to work with the Finnish Government to extradite a pro-Biafran agitator, Simon Ekpa, for prosecution over the sit-at-home order in the Southeastern region of Nigeria.

The upper chamber also agreed to invite the Minister of Foreign Affairs (when appointed) and other relevant stakeholders to conduct a thorough inquiry and bring other act sponsors to justice.

A group of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is alleged to be enforcing the illegal sit-at-home order in five South-East states: Anambra, Enugu, Imo, Abia, and Ebonyi.

The unlawful order was issued in 2021 to press home calls for the release of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, who is being held by the Department of State Services (DSS) and charged with terrorism-related offenses.

In July 2023, the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, stated that the Monday sit-in costs his state more than N10 billion.
