Former Sierra Leone President Ernest Bai Koroma has been named as a suspect in the ongoing investigation into last month’s attempted coup.
Mr. Koroma, who was released on bail on Saturday, is currently under house arrest.
Inspector General of Police William Fayia Sellu stated on Tuesday that Mr. Koroma is not in police custody, as the police are currently showing him respect.
However, Mr. Sellu emphasised that this does not mean that Mr. Koroma is exempt from the law.
He also revealed that there are currently 80 suspects in police custody, including both active and former military and police officers, civilians, and a correctional service officer.

Additionally, Mr. Koroma’s daughter, Dankay Koroma, is among the 54 suspects that the police have listed as wanted.
The government has offered a monetary reward to anyone who provides information leading to the capture of these suspects.
Last week, Mr. Koroma stated that he would rely on due process and the rule of law. In the meantime, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has authorised the deployment of its military to Sierra Leone.
