The Nigerian Senate has addressed recent discussions around the minimum age for admission into tertiary institutions.

The lawmaking body confirmed that the current age requirement of 16 years remains unchanged, despite some recent comments suggesting it might be raised to 18 years.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Adeyemi Adaramodu, stated that any changes to the age requirement would need to go through the proper legislative process.

Adaramodu explained in an interview with journalists that the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, was expressing personal opinions rather than legally binding decisions when he mentioned plans to increase the minimum age limit to 18 years.
