The government of Rwanda has eased the operating restrictions for bars, nightclubs, and other entertainment establishments during the festive season.

The restrictions were initially imposed in September to control noise pollution and public disturbance.

Entertainment businesses were required to operate for shorter hours, which was not well received by hotel, restaurant, and nightclub owners.

However, the Rwanda Development Board, which is run by the state, has announced that from December 15th to January 17th, bars can remain open until 02:00 (local time).

Furthermore, restrictions will be lifted on Fridays, weekends, and public holidays.

“The end-of-year festive season has begun, and the government of Rwanda wants people to celebrate and enjoy,” the board said in a statement on Thursday.

The new guidelines also apply to private events, according to the board.

However, they caution against any violations and emphasize that establishments must adhere to the rules regarding noise pollution.

The measures, which were announced in September, restrict sound levels to 55 decibels during nighttime in commercial areas.
