The Rivers State Police Command is currently investigating an incident where a woman allegedly tried to sell her five-year-old son in Port Harcourt.
According to reports, the woman, identified as Onyinye, brought the boy to a popular market in Bishop Okoye Street in the Mile 3 area of Port Harcourt on Saturday.
Traders at the market confronted the woman when they suspected her intentions, which she claimed were due to hardship.
Doubting if the child belonged to her, the traders took the woman to the police station to report the incident, resulting in her arrest.
One of the traders said, “The way I see the woman, I don’t think she is normal because of how she was acting.”
Grace Iringe-Koko, a spokesperson for the state police command, confirmed the incident when contacted on Monday. She mentioned that the matter is currently under investigation.
She stated, “The woman was brought to the station by some persons who alleged she came to the market to sell her child.
“We are investigating the matter to ascertain the veracity of the eyewitnesses’ claims. Meanwhile, the woman is still with the police.”
