The Rivers State House of Assembly’s 26 members have dropped their impeachment notice against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
This was stated in the notice of withdrawal read aloud on the House floor on Wednesday.
The legislators stated that they made the choice out of respect for President Bola Tinubu, who arranged a reconciliation meeting between the warring parties on Monday.
The verdict was read aloud to the 26 MPs loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike at the House of Assembly Complex on Wednesday morning.
Allub Times recalls that President Tinubu brokered a peace accord between Fubara and his predecessor, Wike, on Monday.
The state’s unrest is said to be the result of a power struggle between the governor and Wike, who is presently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
“We will not proceed with this impeachment process due to respect for President Tinubu,” Factional Speaker Hon. Martins Amaewhule said.
