Chioma Ikokwu, renowned as Chioma Goodhair, bravely unveiled her past experience of abuse in a relationship during a recent episode of Toke Moments, hosted by Toke Makinwa.

The Real Housewives of Lagos star candidly discussed how she overlooked red flags in her previous relationship.

One significant warning sign she highlighted was her ex’s consistent plea for forgiveness after committing wrongs. Chioma shared, “I’ve been in a relationship that was violent, in my first relationship. But the thing is, the most violent men are serial beggars.”

She recounted a poignant incident where her ex, in a desperate act seeking forgiveness, spent three days outside her house, enduring various weather conditions. Eventually, she allowed him to sleep in the corridor, only to find him in her bed by the fourth day.

Another subtle cue she admitted overlooking was the phenomenon of love bombing, where her partner would shower her with gifts, especially following instances of harm. Chioma underscored the profound sense of shame associated with being a victim of abuse, confessing that she only confided in one person after her ex left her battered and bruised.

Detailing the harrowing cycle, she explained, “These men beg and shower you with gifts, and I’m a very strong person, so I went back, and it happened the second time. Both times, I ended up in the hospital. It wasn’t a small thing. I did not have the courage to leave.”

Chioma shed light on the narcissistic behaviour of her ex, who not only avoided responsibility but also falsely claimed that she had inflicted injuries on herself.
