Fifteen young men, who are part of a youth gang known as the Shila Boys in Adamawa State capital, Yola, have been apprehended for reportedly stealing from local residents.
The State Police Command announced on Wednesday that the suspects were taken into custody as part of their efforts to combat the activities of the Shila gang.
“In the early hours of today, Wednesday, March 13, 2024, police at Jimeta Division, Yola North LGA, Adamawa State, while on patrol with Vigilante men along Rumde, engaged radical SHILLA gangs operating with sharp daggers and knives, robbing innocent people of their belongings,” the statement explained.
Police spokesperson Suleiman Nguroje announced that 15 suspects were arrested with weapons such as four sharp daggers and three knives.
The suspects were also found with two handsets, N19,000 in cash, and various quantities of hard drugs.
The suspects, aged between 13 and 20, were identified as Adamu Abdullahi, Hassan Mohammed, Abdullahi Yusuf, Abdulrazak Abubakar, Ibrahim Umar, Mohammed Zakaria, Mohammed Auwal, Kabiru Abdullahi, Auwal Adamu, Aminu Adamu, Abdulrahman Umar, Amir Mohammed, Anas Rufai, Usman Tijjani, and Mohammed Abubakar.
The police confirmed that the suspects will face prosecution once the investigations are completed.
