FCT, Abuja – The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) have decided to suspend the ongoing nationwide strike, which began its second day on Wednesday.

This decision was made after a meeting that discussed the results of a previous discussion with the Federal Government, led by the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu.

The President of TUC, Festus Osifo, confirmed this suspension to Channels Television on Wednesday evening.

Organized labor has announced that it has received a commitment from the Ribadu-led meeting to prosecute those who were arrested for physically assaulting NLC President, Joe Ajaero.

The NSA has promised to bring both parties back to the table to resolve all disputed issues and has offered an apology on behalf of the Federal Government for the brutalization of Ajaero and other congress members.

The meeting took place at the office of the NLSA and was attended by TUC President, Festus Osifo; NLC General Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja; Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, and others.

After a closed-door meeting, both the labour minister and the TUC President stated that they had a strong discussion about the important issues.

The strike occurred shortly after Ajaero was physically assaulted in Imo State two weeks ago while protesting the non-payment of salaries and pensions.
