Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s death has been verified by a source at the Ondo Government House in Akure.

Akeredolu was diagnosed with blood cancer (leukaemia) and has been fighting the illness.

Due to his illness, he travelled to Germany for medical treatment before returning to Ibadan, Oyo State, in July to continue his therapies.

However, once his health deteriorated, he flew on another journey in December and handed it over to his deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

“Our governor is dead! We are mourning secretly here in the government house. They are still keeping the news, but we are mourning here. The death of Akeredolu is a big blow to us.

“The family members have communicated with some of our bosses here, too, but we don’t know the next line of action,” the source told The Whistler on Wednesday.
