According to sources close to security agencies, a powerful Northern Senator who leads a sensitive committee in the Senate is currently being closely monitored for his alleged involvement in terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping activities in the country.

Competent sources have identified this influential lawmaker as one of the sponsors and financiers of banditry and other terror-related activities in the North.

The sources, who spoke anonymously, disclosed that the senator’s unpatriotic actions are widely known to relevant government agencies, and he is expected to face consequences for his alleged participation in these atrocious activities.

“We are aware of the Senator’s unholy relationship with the enemies of the state, including the number of times he had held nocturnal meetings with kidnappers, bandits, and terrorists in Abuja, the seat of power,” one source disclosed.

The powerful senator is believed to have a lot of control over the investigative work of security agencies and is supposedly connected to a vocal Islamic scholar.

According to sources, the politician meddles with the ongoing counterterrorism, sponsorship, and financing efforts of security and law enforcement agencies.

One of the crimes attributed to the lawmaker is his alleged awareness of the individuals responsible for the abduction of female students from the Federal University in Gusau, Zamfara State, as well as the kidnapping of corps members from Akwa Ibom State who were traveling to Sokoto.

“Relevant security agencies have since unraveled the identity of a Senator from the North who is the chief sponsor and financier of banditry and other terror-related activities in parts of the North,” one source asserted.

Security agencies are said to be aware of the senator’s disruptive activities and have put him under surveillance, deeming him a person of interest.

The sources are worried about the senator’s influential position and question why he was given a sensitive chairmanship role despite his alleged past actions.

Although the sources appreciate the efforts of security agencies in gathering intelligence, conducting investigations, and carrying out operations, they stress the importance of political determination from the government to identify, isolate, and prosecute terrorists, as well as those who support or fund them.
