The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) is urging the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to reconsider their planned strike and instead engage in dialogue with the federal government.

In a statement from the NANS Senate President, Akinteye Afeez, the student body expressed worries about how the strike could harm academic activities, especially considering the existing challenges faced by students in the education system.

Afeez pointed out the potential disruptions to academic schedules, exams, and other educational events, cautioning that these consequences could make the already difficult situation in the education sector even worse.

The statement encouraged the NLC to prioritize unity and solidarity, stressing the importance of working together with the government and other stakeholders for the country’s progress.

The Nigerian government has addressed around 60% of the demands made by the NLC, showing a dedication to enhancing workers’ well-being.

The student body urged the NLC to refrain from striking and instead seek other ways to resolve conflicts, highlighting the importance of communication and positive interaction.

Part of the statement read: “We are appealing to the NLC to shun the path of strike action and explore alternative avenues for resolving disputes with the government.

“We believe that dialogue and constructive engagement are essential for addressing grievances and achieving meaningful progress in improving the welfare of workers and citizens alike.”

NANS promised to back the NLC in fighting for workers’ rights, tackling issues, and improving the welfare and success of all Nigerians.
