Chelsea’s dreams of finally getting their season going were dashed on Wednesday when they were defeated 2-1 by Manchester United in a sloppy display that highlighted their inconsistency under Mauricio Pochettino.
The Blues got off to a poor start, and they owed Robert Sanchez a penalty save when Enzo Fernandez fouled Antony in the area. The goalie, however, was powerless to stop Scott McTominay from giving the hosts the lead midway through the first half.

Chelsea gradually clawed their way back into the game, and after Nicolas Jackson and Mykhailo Mudryk squandered golden chances, Cole Palmer equalised with a superb hooked finish into the bottom corner soon before halftime.
The visitors were unable to capitalise on their advantage, and United ultimately made their supremacy count when McTominay headed in his second of the game with just over 20 minutes remaining to consign Chelsea to a loss that drops them to 10th in the Premier League rankings.
