Mateo Kovacic is having his physical at Manchester City ahead of his £25 million move from Chelsea.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Croatian is already receiving a medical before joining Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s team has agreed to pay Chelsea £25 million ($32 million) upfront for Kovacic, plus an additional £5 million in add-ons. According to reports, the add-ons will be enabled if City reach their silverware ambitions.
The midfielder was in the penultimate year of his Chelsea contract, and the Blues decided to cash in on him after spending over £600 million in the 2022-23 season. The treble champions began negotiations with Kovacic in late May and have already agreed to personal terms.
The Blues are overhauling their midfield and have already parted company with Jorginho, who joined Arsenal in January. N’Golo Kante has joined Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad, while Kovacic has joined Premier League rivals City. Mauricio Pochettino has asked for Brighton’s Moises Caicedo, who will cost roughly £80 million, but the Blues are ready to include Conor Gallagher to reduce the price.
Manchester City are likely to confirm Kovacic’s signing soon, and the midfielder will then spend time getting to know his new teammates ahead of the new season.
