Gunmen believed to be bandits attacked several communities in Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State on Thursday, resulting in the deaths of 16 people.

This incident occurred just one day after rival militia groups terrorized the Gbagir community in Ukum LG, leading to the deaths of at least 40 individuals.

Reports indicate that the recent attack took place on Thursday, with the bandits targeting 11 different communities and carrying out a killing spree.

Sources mentioned that the state deputy governor, Sam Ode, along with security chiefs, have visited the area to assess the situation.

Upon reaching out, the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, assured that more information on the incident would be provided once the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, who was at the scene, returned.
