The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reported the arrest of Kayode Cole for threatening its chairman, Ola Olukoyede.

According to EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, Cole was apprehended in the Lugbe area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The threat was made by the suspect using his Instagram handle “1billionsecretss” while commenting on a post by popular Instagram blogger Instablog9ja on February 1, 2024.

Instablog9ja had posted a story with a caption: “A Religious Sect Is Laundering Money for Terrorists. We Traced N7 Billion Fraud Proceeds to another Religious Group – EFCC Chairman”.

In his comment on Instablog9ja, Cole stated that the EFCC chairman would be deceased within six months.

“He will be dead in six months. This man will be dead in 6 months, remember I said it,” he said.

During questioning, the suspect admitted to seeking attention and fame, also known as “chasing clout”.

The suspect will be transferred to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and prosecution, as stated by the anti-graft commission.

Olukoyede, during a dialogue on ‘Youth, Religion, and the Fight against Corruption’ at the Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja on January 30, 2024, disclosed that the commission had uncovered a religious sect in Nigeria involved in money laundering for terrorists.

The EFCC boss also revealed that another religious group was harboring a money launderer, as funds suspected to be laundered were traced to the organization’s bank account.
