The trial of former Central Bank of Nigeria governor Godwin Emefiele for procurement fraud charges was delayed on Thursday due to the absence of lead counsel Rotimi Oyedepo from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Oyedepo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), sent a letter indicating he had another commitment and requested an adjournment to a later date.

During the court session, Emefiele’s representative, I. D. Ahmed, mentioned that the prosecution had requested an adjournment.

However, the trial judge, Justice Hamza Muazu, noted that the proposed date by the EFCC was not suitable for the court. As a result, the trial was rescheduled for June 24 and 25.
