She revealed that she had exchanged messages with him on October 28, just hours before his sudden passing. In an interview with Variety published on December 11, Jennifer shared that Matthew was not in pain and wasn’t facing any struggles during their last communication.

She highlighted that he was in a positive state, having quit smoking, getting in shape, and overall content. Matthew, known for his openness about addiction and recovery in his memoir “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing,” was actively pursuing a healthier lifestyle.
